First off, Barnes and Noble has managed to restock the Nook. Got one? Want one? You can get Anvil of Tears for it! While you’re at it, if you can guess the anti-magical voodoo that keeps it from having cover art, I’d be grateful. Some reviewers are expecting the Nook to do well, despite terrible reviews and lack of holiday availability. We’ll just have to hold onto our butts and see what happens.
Bad publicity and karma seems to be hounding Amazon after their debacle with Macmillan. The Author’s Guild has launched a tool to track your books’ Amazon buy buttons. According to the guild site,
“It happens without warning, always. Just ask the authors in the U.K., well published by major houses, who woke up to find their Buy Buttons had gone missing. No “pardon the inconvenience” e-note from Seattle, just a quiet severing of ties with a few million customers. It’s happened here in the U.S., too, more times than you know. See, the folks at Amazon have a headlock on the online book world, and they tend to get carried away.”
Google’s book search continues to come under fire. This has been going for what now? Years? The Author’s Guild is weighing in on this, too, mostly explaining what they have and haven’t done. I’m not entirely sure what they’re saying (if they’ll continue fighting or not), but you can read it here.
