Dear interested parties at Penguin and imprint, DAW:
I recently pre-ordered Tad Williams’ new book, Shadowmarch 3: Shadowrise from Amazon. Twice now, I’ve been notified of a publisher delay in the release of the ebook, each delaying by an additional week.
I have to ask: Is this further fallout over the spat between Macmillan and Amazon? If so, I’d like to point out that I paid $15 for the ebook, within the price margin that publishers are asking Amazon to list for digital books . I don’t mind paying this slightly higher price (higher than the Amazon $9.99 listings), but I do mind these repeated delays.
How long is this going to go on? While I recognize and appreciate that you and the entire publishing industry are going through difficult growing pains in the ebook market, I’d like to point out that punishing your readership for paying your desired prices is hardly a recommendable way to build good will.
If these delays force me to buy in a print format, I will buy a used copy to ensure that Penguin/DAW does not receive my money. I hope that this issue is sorted out soon, or that I’m mistaken and you’re not the responsible party in this matter. I’d like to remain a loyal customer.
Sincerely,
E.D. Lindquist
